Will there be yearbooks in UK high schools

Will there be yearbooks in UK high schools?
Will the school provide us with yearbooks to the Yr 11s before they leave? Is that a usual tradition in the UK as it is in the US? Thank you!!! :)

At my secondary school, they issued Year 11s (15-16) with yearbooks butu applied a charge. Each student had an individual photograph with a comment by a friend, and there were group ones at the back, along with things like people most likely to... and number ones when they first started.

Applying to universities in the UK. Is an official transcript considered an original document?
I'm applying to some universities in the UK for grad school. They are asking for photocopies of transcripts and they ask not to send originals. Ok, but, I got official transcripts from the 2 universities I attended. Would official transcripts be considered originals? OR should I just photocopy them and hope for the best?

Your official transcripts are originals, unless they have been photocopied. Since they are happy with photocopies, you will be fine sending them in as photocopies.

The Strictest school in the UK!

The Strictest school in the UK!?
My school is incredibly strict! "tuck in shirt, black socks, tie proper, top butten, proper shoes, clean shoes" and i wouldn't mind that, if they would let use have mild length hair!! they literally want us to shave it! your not aloud to have it touching the ears or eyebrows! but i need my hair to be that length! atm moment I'm going out with someone who i love dearly i met her over bebo (even I'm against this kinda stuff) but i don't know why.. but i asked her out, we gna meet this sat.. and i want to look my best! but i cant cuz of the schl getting me to get it cut! my dads not helping cuz hes in America and left me at my nans, who is even stricter! but my dad wont help, or even try to understand at all!!!! i want to move school so badly!! I'm under so much stress and Ive often thought about suicide! but i wont do it cuz i want to be with my gf! everything i do is for her!! so how can i a)move school! or b) convince the school to change the rules!! (almost every other school has the rule that its not allowed to be longer than your shoulders and don't mind my type of hair) I CAN NOT SHAVE MY HEAD!!! SCHOOL IS FOR EDUCATION NOT FASHION!

Try pizza or a hamburger and some hotdogs and chips. Try some coca cola too! French fries too. anything that is greasy will do for american food. lol. Pizza Well i am sure you know but get some dough roll it flat and put some tomato sauce on it with motzarella cheese and peperoni and what ever else you like for toppings. for the hamburger get some beef make a patty fry it and put it on a bun with ketchup tomato lettuce onion. Hotdogs are pretty easy. Chips you can buy in a bag i am sure and the coke too. for French fries get a potato skin it and then slize it in to long thin rectangles then throw them in to hot cooking oil until they are done. You can also do a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a Bacon lettuce sandwich too.

Hmm, interesting. How about southern US cooking. Like jambalaya, grits, collard greens, creole anything? Or California uses avocado in about any sandwich or meal. Texas and Kansas it's BBQ ribs and there are many kinds of dry rubs and mops. For the midwest it's all steak and baked potatoes and corn on the cob with tons of butter. Kentucky has a special regional dish called Hot Browns. I can't describe that one without looking it up again. Hope this helps!

Our "American cuisine" consists of a variety of things, because we are a country with many people from many countries! Living here my whole life, it is unfortunate to say most eat a lot of unhealthy foods. Fatty, fast food, etc. Thanksgiving is a holiday we have remembering our founders. They cooked turkey and bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, a vegetable, pies...things of that nature. It varies from each family and each part of the USA.

Might I recommend a pot roast w/ veggies or a good ole fashioned roast beef w/ mashed potatos and string beans

Southern Fried Chicken Recipe courtesy Paula Deen Show: Food Network Specials Episode: Paula's Cooking Class House Seasoning: 1 cup salt 1/4 cup black pepper 1/4 cup garlic powder Southern Fried Chicken: 4 eggs 1/3 cup water 1 cup hot red pepper sauce 2 cups self-rising flour 1 teaspoon pepper House Seasoning 2 1/2-pound chicken, cut into pieces Oil, for frying, preferably peanut oil To make the House Seasoning, mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months. In a medium size bowl, beat the eggs with the water. Add enough hot sauce so the egg mixture is bright orange. In another bowl, combine the flour and pepper. Season the chicken with the House Seasoning. Dip the seasoned chicken in the egg, and then coat well in the flour mixture. Heat the oil to 350 degrees F in a deep pot. Do not fill the pot more than 1/2 full with oil. Fry the chicken in the oil until brown and crisp. Dark meat takes longer than white meat. It should take dark meat about 13 to 14 minutes, white meat around 8 to 10 minutes serve with mashed potatoes and country gravy, green beans and for dessert apple pie. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_31775,00.html?rsrc=search or choose any of these recipes from country kitchen http://www.acplace.com/#recipebox

Well, I can recommend one dish for you that is local to my area. I grew up in Beaufort County, South Carolina where there is a popular dish among locals known as Frogmore Stew. It isn't very widely known in the US, in fact if you go as far north as North Carolina, people haven't heard of it. And NO, there isn't any frog in it as most American tourists from other states ask when they hear it mentioned. Frogmore refers to a place in the area. It mostly contains sausage, corn and potatoes. It's pretty tasty, if you like stew. You would serve it with a side of cornbread, a popular menu item across the US South. Here's a link to the recipe as well as some other Lowcountry recipes: http://www.co.beaufort.sc.us/bftlib/frogmore.htm#Stew Hope this helps! I just thought of something else. If the stew doesn't sound good, you could make any number of Cajun dishes from New Orleans. I love food from there because it's usually spicy. Jambalaya is a good one: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/easy-cajun-jambalaya/detail.aspx

Here a two recipes for you to make: Chicken Fried Steak I "Breaded and deep fried beef cutlets are known as chicken fried steak because of the similarity in cooking method to fried chicken. This is a family recipe that we have used for years. Vegetable oil may be used in place of shortening for frying." Original recipe yield: 4 servings PREP TIME 15 Min COOK TIME 30 Min READY IN 45 Min INGREDIENTS 1 pound boneless beef top loin 2 cups shortening 1 egg, beaten 1 cup buttermilk salt and pepper to taste 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1 quart milk salt and pepper to taste DIRECTIONS Cut top loin crosswise into 4 (4 ounce) cutlets. Using a glancing motion, pound each cutlet thinly with a moistened mallet or the side of a cleaver. In a large, heavy skillet, heat 1/2 inch shortening to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C). While the shortening is heating, prepare cutlets. In a shallow bowl, beat together egg, buttermilk, salt and pepper. In another shallow dish, mix together garlic powder and 1cup flour. Dip cutlets in flour, turning to evenly coat both sides. Dip in egg mixture, coating both sides, then in flour mixture once again. Place cutlets in heated shortening. Cook until golden brown, turning once. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels. Repeat with remaining cutlets. Drain grease, reserving 1/2 cup. Using the reserved drippings in the pan, prepare gravy over medium heat. Blend in 1/4 cup flour to form a paste. Gradually add milk to desired consistency, stirring constantly. For a thicker gravy add less milk; for a thinner gravy stir in more. Heat through, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve over chicken fried steak. -----DESSERT----- "Apple Pie" 1st Prize Winner . Filling 6 tart apples (Granny Smith, Jonathon or Pippin), peeled, cored, sliced 2/3 cup granulated sugar Water 2 T. cornstarch 1 T. butter 1/2 tsp. cinnamon Pinch of nutmeg Combine apples, sugar and 1/2 cup water in a large skillet. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, then cover and cook 5 minutes. Dissolve cornstarch in 1/4 cup water in a small bowl; stir into apple mixture. Bring to a boil, then cook, stirring occasionally, for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in the butter, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cool. Pastry 1/2 cup butter, softened 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup chopped pecans Beat the butter and brown sugar in mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. With mixer at low speed, beat in the flour and pecans. Press dough into a 10-inch pie plate and refrigerate 10 minutes. Topping 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 cup chopped pecans 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ginger 1/8 tsp. mace 1/4 cup cold butter, cut up Combine flour, pecans, brown sugar, cinnamon ginger and mace in a medium bowl. If you've graduated secondary school in the UK then you can't go to High school in the US, you'd be repeating your schooling. You can always go to a community college (a 2-year, not a university) , they typically have basketball programs. But be sure that you have an actual educational goal as well, since you are a foreign national, you'll probably pay double in tuition than a state resident would.

2 :
There's no such thing as 'no cost' healthcare, it's subsidised by contributions to the national insurance system. In the event of an emergency you would be treated, it is at the discretion of the hospital if they charge you but under current guidelines, the hospital will be expected to charge you & pursue you for the cost of treatment.

you get insurance ...

em,they charge a bit when u get visa, and that bit if for health etc NHS so dont wory schools have their health centers, and its free of charge cos u already paid it,!!! new uk rules,,,,

Hi, most schools will give you a list before you start or on your induction day. But generally you need; glue sticks, scissors, a scientific calculator, ruler, protractor, compass, pens and pencils, tip-ex (if allowed), rubbers, sharpeners. I find colours and highlighters come in useful also, even though they are not required. But don't worry if you don't have everything, most teachers are ok with it if you explain you haven't got something. Good luck with your new school :)

Wear something simple Eg. jeans, plain tee or one with little decoration and a brown or black sweater. JUST BE SIMPLE don't over do it and good luck hope this works!
2 :
It depends were you are moving. I would say wear a tee shirt and some shorts in a surf brand. For example quicksilver or volcom. Those are good brands for a guy to wear.
3 :
jeans and a name brand store shirt and cami and and a name brand jacket or hoody if its cold. Abercrombie or aeropostale is best
4 :
Wear something you think that fits your style. Usually it doesn't matter what you wear. It's usually your personality. People will always remember a hot looking person before a ugly person. Jeans or shorts. shirt or hoodie. Trust me it won't be as bad as you think. Have fun :S

Any tips on how parents can contribute suggestions to their child's school

Any tips on how parents can contribute suggestions to their child's school?
For example my son's school in the UK had a 'buddy' program where an older child from a higher grade was teamed off with an younger child from the lower grade year to prevent older kids bullying younger ones- they used to spend a couple of periods every week doing fun activities together. The teachers also encouraged the class to actively participate in recycle programs where leftover food, plastic bottles or used papers were dumped in respective bins to encourage kids to be aware of the importance of recycling. I was wondering if there is a way where as a parent I could suggest these methods in my son's school here in US without intruding into the school's policies?

Sophomore doesn't really help us over here! What age are you? * At 16 you'll be in Year 12 or 6th Form - You'll be studying your A - Levels (which will last 2 years) Which subjects are the same as GCSE - (English, Maths, Geography, Biology ect...) From Wikipedia: Students will typically study in either the Sixth Form of a School, a Sixth form college, or a further education college. These courses can also be studied by adults over 18. This sector is referred to as Further Education. All 16-18 students are encouraged (this is only mandatory in some institutions) to study Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and Information Technology
2 :
what u need to know about a levels? you can study them at a school or college for free, it takes 2 years and you can study up to 5 subjects tho most people take 3-4 ummmmmmmmm yea =D x
3 :
how r u gonna go to the UK??? i wanna go!! but next year ill be a junior...is ur family all going or r u going there only cuz of ur academics??
4 :
if you 16 when you come to the UK you could be put in high school or a college, both are free, you can go to any college you like and do up to 3-4 A- levels of your choice, but it depends also on your grades like for example if your failed maths you might have to re-take it in college. you will do A-levels for 2 years.

The best place is Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville, KY. http://www.ovwrestling.com/ OVW is the wrestling school that the WWE recommends. OVW sends out videos of their students to the WWE to be evaluated by the executives at WWE. If you really want to become a wrestler for the WWE, you need to come to the U.S.A and join OVW. It will be the quickiest way to get into the WWE. I also hear that if you are a very good student at OVW, they will let you wrestle in the dark matches that WWE provides before the show begins. If you are good there, then you will get noticed. But OVW is the place to be because they have got connections and connections is what you need to get into the WWE. I just want to add that you must prove yourself to be a good wrestler before you move onto the advanced classes. I think, making it to the advanced classes means that you can start wrestling at the OVW shows. And, if you are good there, then you might get selected to wrestle in the WWE. I don't think OVW is all that expensive. I think it will cost you about $6,000 total (tuition). They also have trainers that will tutor you for a set rate. You might get off cheaper by seeing if one of the better wrestling students will tutor (help train) you for a cheaper rate.

20 hours ago you said you wanted to be a mother, and now you're pregnant? I gotta say I think it's the wrong time in your life to have a baby. You need to live first. Be young and wreckless for a while and then get grounded and start your own family. Guys your age aren't that responsible either, so when you are older, you can have a marriage and a family like you've probably spent years wishing for. I hope it all works out for you, but please don't rush into anything. Remember there are two other people in this; the father and the baby. You've got to do what is right for everyone

Chips in School Uniforms Track Students - What are your thoughts

Chips in School Uniforms Track Students - What are your thoughts?
They are doing this at a school in the UK Would you want your kid to be tracked with a chip in their clothing for safety reasons?
Grade-Schooler - 2 Answers

1 :
I believe that they are training a society of extremely paranoid individuals. It's a little sad. If the kid's going to get abducted, changing clothes and dropping the uniform into a trash bin is the first thing the perpetrator would do, Sure, the world is a dangerous one, but does that mean that children should be treated as felons on house arrest. How about we do one better. Three words. Anklet tracking devices. Attach cameras and you can watch you kid where ever he/she goes. No worry for you. I wonder when these become mandatory.
2 :
It's not just in the UK. Some proposed requiring kids to wear those ID badges with the chip in them here in the US too. That notion, thank God for that, was shouted down by outraged parents. No one will ever be putting a chip on my kid. Internally, or externally. Those people touting their injectable chips can go to hell and shut up. I agree. Society is too paranoid these days. Not only that, there's a lack of trust and respect for privacy with the bad technology to go along with it(such as tracking chips). Then again, some people are just nosy. Bad things, happen to good people. No matter how old you are. Children are human beings, they have rights and are not animals to be tagged and released into the wild. If the government decides to suddenly make everyone wear a chip for "the greater good", you bet there will be protests and uprisings against a fascist totalitarian idea. Why should someone who is a child be any different because they have no say for themselves? Technology just may be our downfall one day. There can be a perpetuated reason to tag anyone with a chip. Children who might get abducted, the elderly for their condition, people to quickly access medical information, soldiers, illegal immigrants, inmates, and employees. It's hell. I think those tracking chips are one of the top ten worst inventions ever created. I'd as soon give my kid a hammer to school for him smash the chip in front of everyone...

It depends what you mean by singing school. If you are purely interested in singing, then you may as well get a good singing teacher in your area. If you want to do Musical Theatre then, http://www.mountview.org.uk/ http://www.lsmt.co.uk/ http://www.bruford.ac.uk/ But if you want the singing/music industry side, then look here. http://www.cukas.ac.uk/ There are lots of private Stage/Music Schools, just search them on google. I live in London, so I only really know about London. :)

Is there any cheap flying schools outside the uk which will train me to be a commercial airline pilot

Is there any cheap flying schools outside the uk which will train me to be a commercial airline pilot?
if you go abroad to train it seems to be cheaper, i found one in hungary which trains you from no pilots license to a commercial airline pilot for 52 thousand euros, which i believe is to be around 42 thousand uk pounds.

No.

Well theres one if u say outside of Uk then its in the United states its called Spartans College of Aeronautics and technology.
3 :
Wherever there's cheap av-gas. Try the USA, Australia, Canada.
4 :
The least expensive training is to get FAA pilot certificates in Florida, USA - In USA dollars a CPL + Instrument Rating - Multi Engine is about $ 35,000 - That is the minimum qualification required to apply as airline pilot - But NO pilots presently get hired with just CPL/IR/ME qualifications -

Don't know about the usa. In the uk, the deciding date for which school year/form you are in, is calculated from lst September to 31st August in any school year. So if you were born, for example, on 30th August 1995 and your friend was born on 5th September 1995, you would be in the school year above him. It's based entirely on when you were born, not on academic ability (or lack of it!)

Conditions of an US Citizen in the UK?
I'm planning of Migrating Permanently to the UK and bringing my son. We're both US citizens. Can my 13 year old son go to a public school in the UK? What are the conditions when we both live there permanently?

Yes your son can go to school in the UK. But first you need to cross the hurdle of getting him there. Unless you have court ordered permanent sole custody, and you can prove the absent parent either gives consent to the move, or has not been in the child's life at all and does not contribute to the child's up keep, then you won't be approved for him to enter the UK.

Worst thing you can do is leave before you finish GCSE's, It will go against you in applying for jobs but if you dont care about that then leave. Remember you may not be with this guy youring moving in with forever so why destroy any chance of a good future now.
2 :
Yes, they have... and in many cases have regretted it and gone back to college later in life to get the qualifications they need to get a decent job.... Most employers now expect a minimum of English and Maths GCSEs, so unless you're planning to live off your boyfriend's income forever, I'd rethink your plans. Why can't you move in with your boyfriend and continue your education?
3 :
till 18 u don't leave school and don't go with ur boyfriend. that will be better
4 :
this will allow you to have 4 children by the time you are 20..different dads.live on welfare.public housing..and food stamps..then you can start the ,oh poor me talk..this is your future..when you can see clearly what is coming..sometimes it is a great idea to do something different..
5 :
the school leaving age has been rise to 18
6 :
You end up pregnant working at McDonalds - only AFTER you two break up. Trust me sweetie, stay in school. Life is challenging enough as it is, so don't grow up too fast.
7 :
leaving school does not make you an adult you still have to follow your parents rules until 18 and if they don't want you to move in with your boyfriend they can say you are a runaway or that he kidnapped you.

Questions about UK schooling

Questions about UK schooling?
I may be moving from Jordan to England soon, and I'd like to know if I'd be held a year back. People tell me that the schooling is so different, so they'd put me a year behind... I was born in America and raised there for 10 years, if that counts. The school I go to is International, and they have GCSE exams as well. So is there anything about the schooling I should know?

I don't see why you would be held back, I bet there are more stupid people in the current year your in..

If your in year 10 and your moving to england when your in year 11 you might be held back a year because of different exam boards, teachings and etc. However if your in year 11 now and your moving when your in year 12 then theres no reason for you to be held back a year! Hope this helped!

The BRIT School is Britain's only FREE Performing Arts and Technology School. It is an independent, state funded City College for the Technology of the Arts, the only one of its kind dedicated to education and vocational training for the performing arts, media, art and design and the technologies that make performance possible. As a school for 14-19 year olds, we are unique and pioneering in our approach to education, but we are not a stage or fame school. We recognise that most of our students intend to make a career in the arts, entertainment and communications industries, but the school expects all to follow full time courses to completion. It is a vocational school; if an applicant is determined on a life devoted to art, dance, music, radio, television/film or theatre, then this could well be the right place.

UK med school/A level subject help

UK med school/A level subject help?
hi there, I'm choosing my A levels at the moment and therefore need to get this spot on! I'm definitely going for Biology, Chemistry and English Language but am stuck for a fourth option. I was considering physics but maths is not one of my strong points, I mean I can cope with maths but would prefer to get a higher grade in another subject that I know I'm capable of. Considering doing the AS Science in society which is basically a one year study, exploring science issues, writing about these issues, reviewing and analysis of a science book, and a study of a scientific issue. I mean it's only an AS and to me sounds a bit weak, what do you lot think? Considering psychology, physics (if no other option is available) or a GCSE followed by AS in Italian (MFL)? Cheers for your help!
Other - Education - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Well you have 2 sciences already, you will have what you need to do med at uni. Go with something you enjoy or interested in. Have a word with a connexions advisor if your feeling a bit lost as to what you need. I don't think the AS sounds weak as most people only go on to do 3 A levels anyway and that's all you need to get into uni. However we are being encouraged to carry on with 4 as uni places are getting limited. Psychology is good i have just finished my first year and am considering doing it at uni next year. Good luck!! (:
2 :
You don't need four A levels. If you've picked three and they fit the requirements for medicine that's all you need. However, English Language is _not_ considered to be a suitable A level by most top universities. You should seriously reconsider changing that one. I think "science in society" is a waste of space. Go read a few magazines, if it interests you. Psychology might be a good fit. I wouldn't try physics if you're not good at maths. You won't cope. Or a language is always a good option.
3 :
Hi Nat, Medical school in the UK is competitive and you need to take challenging courses. Psychology is not difficult and career prospects are almost non-existant unitl you get to the graduate degree level. Personally I would recommend either physics or maths as your other A-Level. If you take something "soft" like Science in Society the university will know it and it may,in the end, work against you when you begin to apply for university.
4 :
i am in the same situation as you dont know what to take :( i would take the as science in society because its another science subject and universities like people having 3 sciences on, also it is one year so after the first year you wont have to chose a subject to drop as you will have this one :D i would not say chose psychology because you either have to have 3 sciences and one other subject, or 2 sciences maths and one other subject.

If a nursery school in the uk discovers that a child has headlice.

If a nursery school in the uk discovers that a child has headlice.....?
is it acceptable for them to phone the parent and insist they collect the child? This happened to my sister today, and when she went to pick up her little girl who is only 2 years old they had sat her at a table alone in the corner painting, whilst the other kids played together. Isnt this a little humiliating and unnecessary? Whats worse is that they said that my sister will still have to pay for the session, and when she got home she looked at her daughters hair and there were NO lice? what should she do?
Toddler & Preschooler - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
When my daughter was in Nursery 3 years ago, I discovered headlice and went in to inform them of it. They looked at me as if I was mad and said that yes there were a few kids who had it and that was the perks of their job getting headlice. I hadnt been informed about the other children getting it - I thought you at least got a letter telling you to check your children. So in answer to your query it seems like a very extreme reaction to a very common occurrence amongst children. If they had noticed the headlice theres a good chance it had been in the childs hair for a few weeks so segregating her would have made no difference. Your sister needs to go and talk to the manager and other parents and find out what is going on.
2 :
contact your health deptment or better yet go there and have them give you a letter stating there is no headlice in her hair that's they only way the school(nurse)will pay any attention to you or your daughter school nurse's are not real nurse's they health dept one's are if the school nurse continues report her to health dept

hi! well im from the States so i have no idea what a pinafore is ...... but i think i can help. do you have the blazer all the time? if not , wear it only when you have too again not to sure what a cardigan is, i think its like a sweater? wear it only when its cold wear all the jewelery you can wear your tie loose ankle socks! and try to wear make up! hmmmmm wear your hair half up half down your school is way strict lol hope this helps <3!

Schools in UK are to have a lesson in manners. Is this on the curriculum in other countries

Schools in UK are to have a lesson in manners. Is this on the curriculum in other countries ?
Schools to teach good manners By DAVID WOODING Whitehall Editor April 30, 2007 COMMENT ON THIS STORY PUPILS will be taught good manners at secondary school in a bid to cut yob behaviour. They will spend an hour a week learning the golden rules of being polite and considerate. These include how to behave at the dinner table, when to say “please and “thank you and how to show respect to others. Ministers believe “social and emotional intelligence classes will help stop children from turning into teenage louts. All secondary schools will be urged to put them into timetables for 11 to 14-year-olds from September. New guidance will encourage teachers to show kids how to tackle anger and frustration without losing their cool. The action comes after trials led to dramatically improved behaviour and pupil achievement. Primary schools which took part in the scheme found bullying and truancy fell and classrooms were calmer. from today's sun newspaper online http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007190804,00.html so the yob culture is alive ad well in Australia and India too? open to all countries just want to ascertain 1. we have yobs every where 2. what peope are doing abt it elsewhere

I think this would be good to get into the schools but it would be good to get the parents to teach this at home too!!! It should start at home from when the kids are very young!!!

Depends how rich you are but there are several. Eton is a good one. it also depends where in the UK you want to study. For a list of some of these schools, try the department for education and skills website: www.dfee.gov.uk it even has performance tables for many schools. hope this helps
2 :
Here are some suggestions - friends of mine graduated from these schools and loved their time there. Many boarding schools are single-sex, so unless otherwise specified, these are girls schools: Roedean (www.roedean.co.uk), Benenden (www.benenden.kent.sch.uk), Charterhouse (girls: 6th form only) (www.charterhouse.org.uk), Wycombe Abbey (www.wycombeabbey.com), Marlborough College (mixed) (www.marlboroughcollege.org) Hope that helps.
3 :
Take a look at: http://www.boardingschools.co.uk/
4 :
Eton (nr London), Harrow (nr London), Winchester (Hampshire), Radleigh (nr Oxford), St. Edward's (Oxford), Abingdon (nr Oxford), Sedbergh (Cumbria), Rugby, Marlborough, Shrewsbury, and St. Paul's (London) are all examples of traditional private schools in the UK (usually called "Public Schools" for some reason). Some are only mixed for the 6th form. Milfield is a less traditional school but has a very good reputation, particularly for sport, and pushes students to do more than just study. Not sure of other places in this category.

I don't know what type of license you would like to go for here. But for an ATPL I would suggest going to Spain or New Zealand. Also try CTC website. They have a scheme where you pay a bond of £68,000 but if you get placed with an airline, the bond will be transferred to the airline and they will pay you back the money monthly. If its just a PPL most flying schools would do it at a price range fo £5000 I believe.
3 :
if i were you, i would sugest going into WH Smith and picking up pilot magazine. at the moment, they have a special magazine feature that lists all the training providers in the UK at the moment. try looking for smaller flight establishments, and see how they charge you. Stapleford flight center is very good, good prices and good instructors. you pay by the hour, fuel included, and is timed from airborne time i believe, to brakes on time. i know some other schools start charging from the second you switch on the engine (so if your stuck in a que for the runway, your paying for nothing). some may charge dry, so without fuel, and make you pay for fuel, however i havent seen anybody do that yet. also, be sure to make sure membership fees and landing fees and instruction is all included in the price. if you are going for a career, look at GAPAN and air league for scholarships....my friend got 5 hours of flying free. normally, small airfields are cheaper though, for example, FTOs at biggen hill, southend etc charge quite steep because of fees they need to pay out, like landing or parking. stapleford is private (they own the A/field) so i assume prices are better because they are the primary users of the field, and dont need to pay landing or parking fees.

Not so much "impossible" as "impractical" - being as considering how long you'd be in school with no income, while acquiring debt to pay for your schooling, and factoring in that you won't be done until you're pushing 50 and still have years of debt to pay off.............. the call is one only you can make.

Since American universities' top priority is sports, shouldn't parents send their kids to school in the UK

Since American universities' top priority is sports, shouldn't parents send their kids to school in the UK?
American universities give kids tons of scholarship money not because they study hard or any academic reason, but that they play sports; if you want your kids to learn anything, shouldn't you send your kids here to the UK? We have sports but not tied to college scholarships. I know, you guys want to find dumb kids from the ghettos, give them a football and a diploma so you can sell tickets and t-shirts and pat each other on the back. And all is justified in your country as bringing in money for the school. If American parents really want to give their kids a good education you really need to send them to England. MKC: Not true. The top sporting schools raise their tuition at a higher rate than the ones that don't do so well. J B: Where did you learn your extensive vocabulary?

The dumb kids from the ghettos are not in college for an education and they do not stop others from getting a good education. Both of my daughters received academic scholarships. Most Americans can not afford the Ivy League Universities. There are few who can afford to send their children to the UK.

What a dream, to attend Oxford for a Doctorate in Fine Literature! If only we could afford it. NOTHING is right with things right now, imo.
9 :
I think the elimination of physical education programs in seventh through 12th grade in California Is a travesty. That State lottery funds that started in 1986 had to supplement our schools revenue and are illegally used for other purposes. The spending per pupil has dropped from $15K in 1990 to under 10k now with prisoners costing way over 50K. Kids are burdened with heavy 30 year old books because providing school lockers proved inconvenient by the administration.Fees were raised for college students yet again by our governator who attended one free in 1974, and that's not a tax? I think the sports departments can all piss off!

Absence is granted at the discretion of the head teacher. You can take your child out of school for a few days but the school does not have to authorise it. If it is an unauthorised absence it will not have much impact on the child - it's more about government funding for the school. If the child has several unauthorised absences in the year the Educational Welfare Officer may be called in to investigate. Some areas of the UK fine parents for unauthorised absences but they need a clear policy in place to do this - a phone call to the education authority for that area will confirm if this is in place and will let you know how much. Schools like to pretend they can randomly fine parents when they wish-this is not the case as I said before. Head teachers are very anti unauthorised absence because if the school has a lot in one year then its funding for staff and resources for the following academic year will be lower. Having said all of that if the children only miss a couple of days it won't really matter.

We have nursery from 3-4 or 5. Then they go to "primary school" until 10 or eleven (depending on bday) then we have "upper school or high school" until 16, then they can stay on at high school if they wish and do Alevels, this is called 6th form. Then uni!! hope that helps! xx

You start off in Primary/Infant School and that is from the ages of four-seven. Then junior school - ages seven 'till eleven. Then five years of high school - eleven until you turn sixteen. After that you have a choice of either going into work or you can further your education by going to College and University.

There are differences even within the UK. In Scotland you can go to pre-school at 3 or 4 but you don't have to. You start Primary 1 aged four or five, depending when your birthday falls. You then stay at Primary school until Primary 7. You now go to secondary school and you're aged 11 or 12, again depending on when you're birthday falls ie. if you started school at 4 you'll be 11 when you go to secondary school and if you started at 5 you'll be 12 for secondary school. You can go to Secondary school for 4 years, 1st year to 4th year. In 4th year you sit exams. You will be either 15 or 16. After 4th year you can choose to stay on for 5th year, at the end of which you sit more exams. After this you can choose to go back for 6th if you want to at the end of which you sit more exams. 6th year is the final year you can choose to stay for and you will be either 17 or 18 at the end of it. 5th and 6th year are optional. You can choose to do both years or just one. Some stay on and complete them, other's just get a job and other's go to college. After they go to college, some go on to university. Most who complete 5th or 6th year will go on to university but not all do.
